We go to Myrtle Beach quite often as it is only about 4 hours directly south of where we live.  We go through the Camp Lejuene base and take Hwy 17 South to Myrtle.  It goes through the City of Wilmington which is large.  The  truck route thru the city has  many turns with trees on each side of the road.   They have finally finished a bypass around Wilmington NC. You can now take Highway 140 missing just about all of the city. It is marked real good off Highway 17 north and south.

North Myrtle

When we go to Myrtle for the shag dancing, SOS, and blues music, we stay in North Myrtle. Our favorite place is the Briarcliff RV Resort. It is a coast to coast and passport America campground.  There are several other campgrounds in North Myrtle but we have never stayed in them.

North Myrtle is the home of the shag which is a southern style of dance similar to the jitterbug but smoother. Around the  Main Street area there are  clubs that cater to the shag dance crowd. Fat Harold's, Ducks, Ducks 2, Pirates Cove, Boulevard Grill, H's, Spanish Galleon, and the Arcade all have DJs and dancing. Usually there is no cover charge except for special occasions.  The Society for Stranders (SOS) has a spring and fall week long party that attracts thousands of dancers from all over the USA. There is a charge during these times. The Association of Beach Music & Shag Club DJ's provide a DJ for each day and night. These are for adults only and a very good time is had by all.

The Alabama Theater, Carolina Opry, Dixie Stampede is in the North Myrtle area.

South Myrtle

When we go to Myrtle with our daughters and their families we usually stay  in the South Myrtle area.

Also the SASA (South Atlantic Shrine Assoc.) has a week long meeting in September here most years. Most camping Shriners  stay at the KOA off 5th Ave south.

There is the Myrtle Beach State Park south of the main beach area  that is also a good place.

Also the Huntington Beach Park is good.
