Ingredients
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/2 CUP BUTTER AND LARD MIXED (OR ALL BUTTER)
1 EGG
1 CUP MOLASSES
2 1/2 CUPS PLAIN FLOUR
1 1/2 TSP SODA (TEASPOON)
1 TSP GINGER
1 TSP CINNAMON
1/2 TSP CLOVES
1/2 TSP SALT
1 CUP HOT WATER
CREAM SHORTENING AND SUGAR,
ADD BEATEN EGG, MOLASSES, THEN DRY INGREDIENTS WHICH HAVE BEEN SIFTED TOGETHER,
ADD HOT WATER AND BEAT UNTIL SMOOTH
BAKE IN GREASED SHALLOW PAN 35 MINUTES 350 DEGREE OVEN
LEMON SAUCE
1 CUP SUGAR
4 TABLESPOONS FLOUR
JUICE OF ONE LEMON
4 TABLESPOONS BUTTER
2 CUPS BOILING WATER
DASH OF SALT
COMBINE SUGAR, SALT, FLOUR IN TOP OF DOUBLE BOILER,
ADD WATER AND COOK, STIRRING CONSTANTLY UNTIL THICK AND CLEAR.
REMOVE FROM HEAT AND ADD BUTTER AND LEMON JUICE.
SERVE WARM, SAUCE OVER WARM GINGERBREAD, DELICIOUS.
