I thought I would share some of our close to home campgrounds with you.

Williamston NC
For anyone going to the Outer Banks and needs to stop for a night, the Governor Bob Martin Agricultural Center in Williamston is excellent. It is about an hour or so from OBX. If you are traveling east on 64 you can see it by looking right just before  exit 512, turn left at the end of the ramp and just work your way back to it. It is a center for rodeos, etc but they have about 50 back in sites with power and water and a dump station.
Their phone # is 1-888-792-5802.

Cedar Point NC
This is between Swansboro and Morehead City on the mainland. It is about 5 miles off the beach. It is a federal campground. It is reached on Hwy 58 by turning on VFW Rd and going just about to the dead end on the left. It is about a mile or two from the intersection of hwy 24e and hwy 58w.  I don't think they make reservations. It is nice, but if you need swimming pools or playground equipment you might want to go to the more expensive campgrounds out on Emerald Isle. They accept Golden Age cards.

Greensboro NC
Hagan Stone Park is a city park. It is off 42l south about 5 miles or so off the major highways through Greensboro.  It has right many sites with power 30/ 50 and water. There is a dump station. There is a lake for fishing, paddle boats, hiking trails, picnic shelters. It is a nice family park. It is the best choice in the Greensboro area.

Raleigh NC
There are several good state parks in the Falls Lake are north of Raleigh. We have stayed in the Rollingview Campground which is about 10 miles north of Raleigh on Hwy 98 turning on Baptist Rd. In the winter months they lock their gates at 6 pm. In the Summer it stays open until around 9 pm. There is playground equipment and of course a lake with boating access. They give a good discount to a North Carolina resident over 65 years old.

South of Raleigh (near Cary) is the state parks of Jordan Lakes and campgrounds. There are many, many sites but we have not stayed here.

North Wilkesboro NC
This is Bandits Roost Campground just north of Winston Salem. It is very nice. It has a lake with boat access, playgrounds, and swimming area. It is not opened during the winter. This can be reserved on Reserve USA.

Marion NC
Better be careful here. This is the home of Tom Johnson RV Sales and camping area. They have a huge selection of all types of RV's and it is hard to resist.  They also have a large camping area beside their sales area. It is just off  I-40 about 20 miles east of Asheville. Be sure to visit the Biltmore House in Asheville while in this area.

Maggie Valley NC
This is in the mountains. It is a beautiful little valley. Don't come in on Hwy 19 in a motorhome though. Not fit for any size RV.  From I-40 take exit 20 (Johnathan Creek Rd), go to end, turn right and there you are.  We like  Cross Creek RV Park campground on the Moody Farm  Loop Rd.   Phone # is 1-828-926-1183. They are closed during the winter months. It does not have a pool or playground equipment if you need that.  The pancake house on the west end of Maggie Valley is a good place to eat. They close at noon. After eating there go ahead and go to Cherokee which is a nice drive (in your car) across the mountains, takes about half hour or so.

Til next time.
